About the speaker
Dr Wolfgang Wodarg is a medical specialist in several fields, a former member of the German Bundestag and a long-standing expert in health policy.
In 2010, as chairman of the health committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, he initiated the inquiry into the WHO's false alarm over the so-called swine flu (H1N1).
Until 2020 he then served on the board of the anti-corruption organisation Transparency International Germany, where he also headed the health working group. With clear analysis and well-founded facts, Wodarg sheds light on a world in which money is traded for power.
He analyses institutional conflicts of interest and how political decisions are shaped by economic motives.
But he also describes how we can defend ourselves against totalitarian encroachments. In doing so, he addresses fundamental systemic questions: what are the conditions under which we can live self-determined lives and protect ourselves from parasitic takeovers?
Wodarg analyses how the corruption of politics, the media and science has in recent years led to a loss of transparency, polarised public debate and increasing censorship of critical voices. Using concrete examples, he shows how decision-making processes were steered by economic interests and narratives manipulated. He also discusses fear as an instrument of power and the important role of the media in how we live together.
