Our mission statement
What we stand for – in clear principles.
-
We are a group of freedom-loving citizens who have come together to form a political party.
-
We love freedom. That is why we want to overcome the state of dependence on government in which a considerable part of the population finds itself today. So that people can free themselves from this dependence, we want to convince them of the ideas of libertarianism. We want to motivate everyone to take personal responsibility and not to be seduced by the nanny state. For this, however, the consistent idea of freedom needs a voice on the political stage. We want to be this voice of freedom.
-
So that people first become aware of their dependence, we want to show them where their freedom is currently restricted and to question these restrictions. As a next step, we want to sketch out alternatives to today's order: what could our life together look like if the state did not interfere in almost every area of life? On the basis of such visions, we want to awaken people's appetite for freedom. With our ideas, we want to encourage independent thinking. The path to libertarian ideas is a long intellectual journey. We want to invite people to join us on this journey.
-
We want to represent libertarian ideas on the political stage. That is why we are organised as a party and stand in legislative elections. But since we reject politics' ambition to shape everything, we approach politics with great scepticism. Politics is the medium in which we operate, but political power is not our goal. In our political work, we strive for a minimal state apparatus.
-
The core demands of the Libertarian Party are:
- State services should no longer be forced on citizens but financed voluntarily (e.g. abolition of the radio and television licence fee).
- Retirement provision and healthcare should become more flexible and voluntary, and thus better able to accommodate different ways of life.
- Switzerland's economic dynamism should be strengthened through an open, performance-oriented trade and migration policy.
- The state must stay out of citizens' private lives entirely (legalisation of all narcotics and gambling, abolition of state rules on marriage and inheritance, etc.)
-
We want to be heard. Our ideas should become part of public debate. For this we need a growing number of supporters. We are looking for people who understand our message and pass it on. We reject short-term political gains at the expense of our convictions. The most important place for libertarian ideas is not parliament, but people's minds.
